Brunswick Update #16
A jury has convicted Demarquise Elkins in the murder of infant Antonio Santiago. Elkins and a co-defendant tried to rob the babies mother in Brunswick, Georgia. When the mother didn’t have any money Elkins shot the baby in the face. Elkins claimed membership in the Bloods street gang.
The defense hung their hat on the fact that the mother couldn’t identify Elkins for sure in a photo line-up. They sort of failed to notice that Elkins’ co-defendant took care of that minor detail in his testimony.
Elkins was also convicted in the robbery and shooting of a Hispanic pastor ten days before he killed the baby.
Too bad he can’t get the death penalty.
Karimah Elkins, Demarquise’s maggot mother, was convicted of tampering with evidence. The charge resulted from her and her daughter retrieving the murder weapon from under someone’s sofa and tossing it into a pond where police eventually recovered it. She faces ten years in prison.
